I Heard About a Guy by Marilyn MackenzieI heard about a guy who came up with a pretty creative solution to those funky Christmas ties his family always gave him. No doubt his family got the message. I'm sure this man wished he had thought of this perfect idea much sooner than he did. Each year, this man received Christmas ties from his wife and two children. Sometimes they were just green ties with poinsettias on them. Sometimes they were more outrageous. He had ties with flashing Christmas tree lights on them and ties with Rudolph and his flashing "nose so bright." Every year, this fellow faced a dilemma. He had to act grateful to his wife and kids for giving him Christmas ties on Christmas Day. He always wondered why they did that. If they were going to give him holiday ties, he wondered why they didn't give them to him before the holidays so he could wear them. Instead, he packed them away for the next Christmas season, hoping he would remember which ties were the newest ones. In October of 2006, the man carefully took out all of the Christmas ties he had received over the past ten or fifteen years. He bought three large picture frames and strategically placed six ties under the glass in each frame. He also put a few of the more conservative ties on his tie rack, so he could wear them if he so chose. When his family questioned why he had his Christmas ties out even before Halloween, the man informed them that he felt guilty that he could not wear all of the "beautiful ties" they gave him, so he decided to showcase them by framing them. He informed his family that he was starting a new tradition - to adorn the walls of the living room with his ties during the holidays so that each and every one could be admired by family and friends as they came to visit. For Christmas this year, the man received no holiday ties from his family. He did get some pretty traditional gifts - a new wallet, a new belt, some shirts and underwear. But there were no Christmas ties among his presents. I'm told that the man smiled to himself and after Christmas he went out and bought a few more frames. Why? He also decided to make wall décor out of some of the ugly ties he usually received for his birthday and Father's Day.
I had to pass on what I heard about this guy, just in case anyone else wants to try framing their Christmas or Father's Day ties. Who knows? Funky tie wall hangings just might catch on.
