My Greatest Father's Day Gift   by Jim OKeefe

Recently, my younger brother passed away at the age of 38. I was assigned the job of cleaning his things up and giving to charity all that could be used.

I came across a Father's Day card I had given nearly 35 years ago, and the thought of it brought a tear to my eye and inspired me to action.

When I was growing up, as I suppose was the case with many people, we were told to make hand made cards for our parents in school. It was a pleasant experience but kind of awkward for me, as at home, there was only mom. This made us the exception rather than the rule in the early 70s, as Divorce was not as common as it is now.

Anyway, we created HAPPY Father's Day cards, to bring home. Well, it occurred to me that Mom fulfilled both roles in our house so on the front of the card, where it read Happy Fathers Day, I added MOM to the text and gave it to her. Mom was elated!

My brother had gotten possession of many of mom's things as she moved to Florida - where old people go when they turn 65 (in jest). He had remembered that Mom loved the card, and he did not want it to be lost. It remained with him until his death.

This card inspired me to create a line of gifts for children seeking a similar gift, as I have never found a similar product yet. The website Happy Father's Day, Mom was created, with a portion of the profits to mom to fund her retirement. Who would have thought it could go this far.

I am not sure how many more years I will have mom with us, I hope many of them, however, I know I will always have the memory of the card that read Happy Father's Day, Mom
