Hidden Clue #1: Most pedophiles are "trekkies"

On April 27th, 2005, the L.A. Times ran a story about Child Exploitation regarding the Toronto sex crimes unit. An interview with a detective revealed that all but one of the 100 pedophiles they had arrested were "hard-core trekkies".

Now, it's important to note that just because someone likes Star Trek... that does NOT make them a pedophile.

But it is an interesting fact that many pedophiles do share some interest in Star Trek.

Hidden Clue #2: They are incredibly patient and relish "the chase"

Most people picture pedophiles as slobbering morons ruled by their lusts, but the truth is many pedophiles are cunning strategists willing to wait months in order to finalize the chase.

Many online predators will chat with under-aged teens or kids for over 6 months before finally suggesting LMIRL ("Let's Meet In Real Life")

Hidden Clue #3: They are tech-savvy.

Although online predators and pedophiles are much older than your kids, they are just as tech-savvy. They know how to work webcams, digital cameras and other tools of their trades.

And they know that your kids want these gadgets. Many times an online predator will send a webcam to a child as a "gift". They'll instruct the child how to set it up and then ask the child to remove an article of clothing in front of the web cam in exchange for the technological device.

Tip #4: They Know More About Youth Culture Than You Do

It's almost impossible for most parents to keep up with the changing tide of the youth culture these days. Bands that are "sic" or "dope" one day are "grody" by the next day.

The language used online is no different. Even if can decipher parts of what your child is typing ("L.O.L" equals Laugh Out Loud), there are hundreds of other acronyms that most parents don't have a clue about. ("POS", "Less than three", "PAW", "warez", "pron")

Tip #5 Online Predators And Pedophiles Secretly Believe There Is Nothing Wrong With Molesting Young Girls And Boys

Perhaps you've heard of the organization known as "N.A.M.B.L.A" or North American Man Boy Love Association. It sounds made-up but this a very real organization fighting to abolish consent laws that prevent an adult from having sex with a child.

They have their own website... they even publish their own literature which they make accessible to young boys.

Think the U.S. Government should shut down N.A.M.B.L.A.? Well then this will really make your blood boil. The ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) refused to back the Boy Scouts of America but is now actively supporting N.A.M.B.A.... even publicly defending the organization in a $200 million dollar lawsuit.

The lesson here is crystal clear: To keep your kids safe online... you can't depend television, your neighbors or your government. You've got to take matters into your own hands.
